Pay and Representation of Racial/Ethnic Minorities in Higher Education Administration

The College and University Professional Association for Human Resources (CUPA-HR) recently released the report Pay and Representation of Racial/Ethnic Minorities in Higher Education Administrative Positions: The Century So Far.
The second brief in a series focusing on diversity in higher education administrative positions, this report highlights trends in administrators’ pay and representation, comparing minorities and white higher education administrators overall and by position description and region.
The study finds that only 13 percent of senior-level executives in higher education belong to a racial/ethnic minority group. Further, while their representation has increased over the last 15 years, it has not kept pace with the increase in the percent of students of color graduating from postsecondary education.
The study also finds that minorities and non-minorities have equitable pay in higher education administrative roles and that this salary parity has remained steady for the past 15 years.
