ACE, Banco Santander-Universia Launch Observatory for U.S.-Mexico Higher Education

ACE’s Center for Internationalization and Global Engagement and Banco Santander-Universia announced the launch of a new Observatory for U.S.-Mexico Higher Education during a dinner sponsored by Banco Santander-Universia for some 40 presidents from Mexico who are attending ACE2016.

The initiative will track and analyze the numerous ways in which the two country’s higher education institutions are working together. 

Carlos Pérez-Verdía, Mexican under-secretary for North America, cited a number of current bilateral initiatives to bring the two countries closer, including support for higher education collaboration.

The presence of some 100 university leaders from outside the United States—including many members of the International Association of University Professors—at this year’s meeting presented a number of opportunities for building higher education bridges.

The international participants come to learn about U.S. higher education policy, innovation, and leadership, and to network with their American peers. But the global perspectives they bring into the conversations here remind us that, although education systems may be governed at the state and national levels, we all operate in an increasingly interconnected, global higher education community. The challenges of shrinking budgets, diversity and inclusion, degree attainment, and institutional leadership are ones we share, regardless of borders.
