William Shakespeare is hitting the road, and he’s bringing his first folio with him. Among his stops will be 20 colleges and universities across the country, beginning next week with the University of Notre Dame (IN).
The 1623 First Folio of Shakespeare contains 36 of his plays, including Macbeth, Julius Caesar and Hamlet. And now that folio is going on tour as part of the Folger Shakespeare Library’s First Folio! The Book That Gave Us Shakespeare.
After its inaugural stop, the folio will travel to a wide range of public and private college and universities, including Kapiolani Community College in Hawaii, as well as museums, public libraries and historical societies.
Visitors to the exhibit will be able to view original book, which will be open to Hamlet’s famous “to be or not to be” speech. Each of the 51 locations also will play host to a variety of public events, activities and exhibitions.
Alas, the tour will come to an end in Nashville in January 2017.
