The University of Massachusetts Amherst (UMass) has launched a new scholarship program designed to encourage top students from the commonwealth’s community colleges to finish their bachelor’s degrees.
Honors-to-Honors is UMass’s first scholarship program specifically for transfer honors students. The scholarship will expand on the work of MassTransfer, an initiative to encourage students to take advantage of community college’s lower costs before completing their degrees at UMass.
To be eligible for Honors-to-Honors, students must be first-generation college students or come from low-income households and graduate from the honor’s program in any of Massachusetts’s 15 community colleges.
The annual scholarship is expected to decrease, if not entirely eliminate, students’ loan obligations.
