The College and University Professional Association for Human Resources (CUPA-HR) recently released this year’s edition of their Staff in Higher Education Annual Report.
The study found modest median salary increases of 1.88 percent for the 205,000 college and university staff surveyed. Differences in salary by region, gender, and race and ethnicity also were found, with women earning less than men despite women making up about 61 percent of higher education staff overall. In addition, people of color made up 31 percent of staff but, with the exception of Asians, earned less than White staff across all positions.
The report also highlights that 15 states and the District of Columbia have recently passed legislation to increase the minimum wage, requiring some colleges and universities to raise wages for certain positions over the next few years.
