From Third Way: The Cost of the College Dropout Rate
Title: Ripple Effect: The Cost of the College Dropout Rate
Author: Wesley Whistle
Source: Third Way
A recent article by Third Way discusses the potential economic and personal impact if the rate of postsecondary completion mirrored that of high school completion.
Findings from the analysis show that 57 percent of college students complete a credential within eight years of first enrolling, much lower than the high school graduation rate of 84 percent. The author estimates that an increased completion rate would raise the number of those with two- and four-year degrees within just the class of students looked at by the study by an additional 107,400 people.
The article also discusses how this increase in graduates would impact unemployment and poverty rates, annual wages, and the use of government assistance programs, as well as the additional taxes generated by these individuals.
