A summit next week in Washington, DC, will include college and university presidents discussing current campus wellness successes and efforts to make further progress in areas such as improving student nutrition habits and encouraging more physical activity.
The March 12-14 Building a Healthier Future Summit will feature a discussion on these topics led by President Donna Shalala of University of Miami, President Beverly Tatum of Spelman College (GA), Dean Lynn Goldman of George Washington University (DC), Associate Vice Provost Michael Goldstein of the University of California, Los Angeles and Sodexo COO Lorna Donatone.
The Summit is being run by the Partnership for a Healthier America (PHA), which works to help end the childhood obesity epidemic.
PHA is currently collaborating with colleges and universities to develop a healthier campus initiative to improve the food/nutrition and physical activity environments of campuses across the United States. Over the past year, PHA has consulted with university presidents and administrators, higher education associations and other key thought leaders to develop a joint initiative.
More information about the campus initiative can be obtained by emailing Sara John: sjohn@ahealthieramerica.org.
