Inside Higher Ed released the latest 2017 Survey of College and University Admissions Directors in September 2017. According to the report, only 34 percent of colleges had met their enrollment goals by May 1, 2017, compared to 37 percent last year and 42 percent in 2015.

Looking at institutional types, 59 percent of public doctoral institutions reported fulfilling their enrollment targets by May 1, followed by 27 percent of community colleges and 22 percent of public bachelor’s/master’s institutions. In the private sector, over one-third (36 percent) of colleges and universities met their admissions goals.

In addition to the new student enrollment trends, the survey report also provides some interesting findings on the associations among college admissions, applicants’ social media, disciplinary records, the impacts of the 2016 election and the impacts of student debt.
